Safety Tips From National Fire Prevention Week

This year, National Fire Prevention Week will take place on October 5-11, 2014. With this week coming up, the team at Paul Davis Restoration of Northeast DFW would like to provide you with a few safety tips to reduce the chances of house fires.

Cooking is the primary cause of fires in the home. Don’t leave items to cook on the stove while unattended, as hot oil, grease, or forgotten food can flare up in just a short time. Loose clothing can also be hazardous, as sleeves can catch fire if they touch a hot cooking surface. Make sure you have an ABC-rated fire extinguisher at close proximity in your kitchen.

If a fire occurs somewhere in the home, smoke detectors can be liefsavers. The National Fire Prevention Association states that 60% of residential fire fatalities occur in homes with either missing or non-working smoke detectors, according to a report in 2014. Dead, missing, or disconnected batteries are the main culprit for smoke detectors that fail to work, according to the NPFA. Schedule some time to test your smoke detectors and replace dead batteries as soon as you can.

The safety of the Northeast DFW community is our biggest priority. We clean up and repair property damage from fire, smoke, and water from firefighting efforts with the goal of getting homes and businesses back to normal as soon as we can.
